EC initiation death toll increases

The initiation-related death toll in the Eastern Cape has increased to 11, and this has left authorities in fear.

First deaths were reported last Friday and seven days later, the number has increased to 11 following the start of the  summer initiation launched on  November 21.

Three recent deaths have been reported in King William's Town, Mthatha and Lusikisiki.

Health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said an initiates from Ginsberg, in King William's Town died at Bhisho Hospital. "The King William's Town initiate was dehydrated and had an asthma attack," said Kupelo.
This is the first Buffalo City Metro initiation death reported.
