Nzimande loses out for NEC spot

One of the biggest losers of the ANC national conference in Nasrec is SACP general-secretary Blade Nzimande who did not garner enough votes to serve in the NEC.

But the new ANC NEC will further be almost SACP-free with Nzimande also joined by his SACP forces, chairman Senzeni Zokwa and his deputy Thulas Nxesi despite the trio having served under the Jacob Zuma-led ANC NEC of the previous term.

The SACP had a fallout with President Jacob Zuma after it banned him from speaking at their events.

During the conference, political speeches pointed to potential reconciliation and truce between Zuma and Nzimande.

But the new NEC list says otherwise as it is in short supply of communists.

Instead, the NEC is mainly made up of Zuma loyalists such as ministers Mosebenzi Zwane and Bongani Bongo, and ANCYL president Collen Maine among others.
