IT’S all systems go for tomorrow’s annual Countdown Music Festival Sangena at Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium in East London.

More than 9000 revellers will party their way into the New Year with some of the biggest names in the music industry entertaining them.

Event spokesman Luyolo Beku said the fourth instalment of the New Year’s Eve spectacle would be bigger and better this year, as they had moved it from the Buffalo City Stadium to the bigger Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium. “Last year the attendance was just over 9000. Even this year it’s looking quite promising. The last time I checked we had filled at least 90% of the stadium.”

Eastern Cape-born artists Heavy K, Emtee, Zakes Bantwini and the Jaziel Brothers will be some of the big acts at the event.

Popular BCM artists Blomzit Avenue and Yoba UNLTD will also take to the stage.

Beku said all booked artists had confirmed their availability.

The door has not been shut on local artists for next year’s event.

But Beku said they would not just book anyone just because they were from the Eastern Cape.

“I advise artists to be sure of their craft. It’s one thing you coming to me as an artist and me not knowing who you are. What are you doing during the year to qualify yourself to be on that stage because there is only a certain number that can make it.

“Get your music played on local radio stations. The Eastern Cape is big enough alone to qualify you as a national artist,” he said.

But for this year, there is only one objective that the organisers have.

“More than anything is for everyone there to enter the New Year safe, and everyone to have a fresh start because we have all had different experiences of 2017.

“Secondly, we hope for a good attendance. The weather is promising and it has not disappointed us in the past, so people must come out with their camp chairs,” he said.
