Search on to find kidnapped Sterkstroom woman

Komani police are searching for two men who robbed a Sterkstroom family and kidnapped a 71-year-old woman at their home on Tuesday.

Komani police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni said the police are searching for the two armed men who kidnapped Denise Bartlett at 7pm in her home.

“Bartlett was with her granddaughter when the two armed men entered their house. They assaulted them and took an undisclosed amount of money. They took Bartlett and used her lime green Chevrolet car to get away,” she said.

Mdleleni said Bartlett is still missing and the police have formed a task team to search for her.

“A case of kidnapping and house robbery has been opened,” she said.

Mdleleni said Komani cluster commander Major-General Funeka Siganga is appealling to anyone with information to please call 086 001 0111.

Bartlett is the mother of an Enoch Mgijima local municipality councillor Lindy Haggard.

Speaking to the DispatchLIVE about the incident, Haggard said the family is still shocked by the incident.

“We urge anyone who has information to please contact the family or the police. These people used her Chevrolet with registration HCN 871 EC,” she said.

Haggard can be contacted on 082 398 4367 or people can also contact Jayme Haggard on 078 264 5046.
