Police minister Fikile Mbalula has commended the task team for cracking the Engcobo police mass murder case before the 72 hours deadline set by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He was speaking in Ngcobo today after police killed seven and arrested 10 people believed to be involved in Wednesday's police slaughter.

Mbalula said they wanted to take all the suspects alive so that they could answer in court.

"The biggest mistake they made was opening fire at us. We have highly trained task force members who all respond to such events.

"You won't find these officers at charge offices doing dockets," he said.

National police commissioner General Khehla Sitole said the swift police action was made possible after sourcing resources from across the country. Mbalula said the arrest had stamped the authority of the state and has restored police dignity.

The seven were killed during a shootout with the police at the Mancoba Seven Angel's Ministries.
