ANC yet to decide on Ndebele report on PEC

ANC members in the Eastern Cape will only know next week whether the Oscar Mabuyane-led provincial executive committee is a legitimate structure.

ANC secretary general Ace Magashule made the announcement at a press conference yesterday, following a meeting of the national working committee held in Johannesburg earlier in the week.

Magashule said all the NWC did was receive the much talked about Sbu Ndebele report for “noting”, saying only the national executive committee of the ruling party would have the final say on the matter at its meeting scheduled for next weekend.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday afternoon Magashule said: “I think everybody will have to wait for that internal process and for the report to be made public once the NEC has taken a decision on it (Eastern Cape PEC). For now the NWC has noted the report,” said Magashule.

The ANC NEC assigned an Ndebele-led team to investigate events leading to the throwing of chairs during the October 2017 elective conference held at the East London International Convention Centre. Mabuyane's rivals, a group led by his predecessor Premier Phumulo Masualle, want the PEC elected last December to be disbanded and replaced by a task team.
