Comic and actress Khanyisa Bunu will be gracing the Music and Comedy Nights: The Vibe stage tomorrow at Mthombo’s Palace in Mdantsane.

The event, which started in February, gives Eastern Cape comics, rappers and singers an opportunity to showcase their talent.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Bunu said she was coming to the province as a buildup to her show.

“I will be bringing my Khanyisa Bunu and Friends show to the Guild Theatre on April 1.

“I am excited that I will be at the music and comedy night this Friday,” she said.

The Whittlesea-born comedian made a name for herself when she won the comedy competition So You Think You’re Funny in 2008.

Since then, she has featured on a number of stages across the country and has taken to the small screen as well. She has appeared on shows such as Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and the Bantu Hour skits.

Her television break came with a role on the SABC1 sitcom Ses’Top La, where she plays a domestic worker.

“I didn’t even audition for that role. I got a call that they wanted to do a screen test and I went.

“There were five other actors for the role and I got it,” she said, adding that it gave her the confidence to audition for other roles as well.

“Before Ses’Top La I didn’t think I could act, even though I had featured on Late Nite News and Bantu Hour.

“The show gave me the confidence to go and audition for Scandal,” she said. On Scandal Bunu plays the role of Dambisa.

While Bunu enjoys being on the small screen, she says her new-found fame has come with some challenges.

“Back home people appreciate me more now. They stop me on the streets and want to know how I do it.

“Some of them will tell me they want to be actors. People always want to stop me on the street and take pictures and I can’t be mean to them even if I am rushing somewhere,” she said.

Event organiser Silulami “Slujah” Bunu said they had received a positive response from the public since their first show in February.

Entry to the event is R30. —
