Residents in and around Mdantsane will today have the opportunity to have their health checked for free.

Mobile ambulances, dental trucks and medical clinics will be stationed all along the Highway area in Mdantsane for this year’s medical screening by healthcare professionals from Buffalo City and other parts of the province.

The medical staffers will be volunteering their services for this year’s King’s Palace Chapel International (KPCI) quarterly free medical and screening expo. KPCI pastor Apostle Sammy Sackey said the events would include spiritual counselling services. He described the event as part of the vision of the church to assist people by providing them with optimum health services.

“When you are not healthy, your spiritual life is affected.”

Eastern Cape health provincial dental manager Mzwandile Banda said they hoped to reach more people through this year’s outreaches.

“The KPCI health expo is a medical drive to combat social ills and extend a sense of ubuntu to the BCM community by providing free screening and healthcare services such as diagnosis and treatment options for high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, dental problems and oral health.”

He said due to popular demand, the annual event would be hosted quarterly in Reeston, Mdantsane, Duncan Village and Nompumelelo.

Medical outreach co-ordinator, doctor Luyanda Bokolo, said the doctors at the expo would monitor dietary services, and offer X-ray services for Mdantsane residents.

Department of health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the department will bring services-on-wheels to the expo.

“We always encourage people who can render services to the public to get involved in promoting health services.” — nonsindisoq@dispatch.co.za
