Search on for armed gang after Vincent shop robbed

Police are looking for five armed robbers who stormed the upmarket HWM beauty shop in Vincent, held staff hostage, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money, cellphones and Peruvian weaves worth R20 000.

The incident took place at the Douglas Street store on Sunday, police spokesman Nkosikho Mzuku said.

Mzuku said the well-orchestrated heist was led by an "attractive" looking woman who entered the shop alone and pretended to be interested in purchasing the weaves before drawing the gun on unsuspecting staff. The police are looking for her and her four male gang members who are all in their 30s.

“Our detectives and other crime scene experts are busy combing the crime scene and following possible leads which could result in developments in the case.”

Mzuku said: “It is alleged that a woman disguising as a customer entered first after buying hair products then she pointed a gun at the cashier before her accomplices entered and looted the salon. The suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Avanza.”

No shots were fired and no one was injured, said Mzuku.

The Dispatch visited the business situated at 9 Douglas Road and was told by three frightened staff members who were speaking behind the locked glass door supported by a burglar gate, that the boss would call us but no one called. The Dispatch made several efforts to get the businesswoman but her phone rang unanswered for the entire day.
