Police have recovered dagga worth around R350 000 in two separate operations in Dordrecht and Ntabankulu after stopping vehicles transporting  large stashes of the "herb" to Cape Town on Sunday and Monday.

In the first incident during the early hours of Sunday morning, a Toyota bakkie was found to be ferrying around 20 bags of dagga worth around R100 000 after it was stopped by a highway patrol team from EmaXesibeni police cluster along the N2.

KwaBhaca police spokeswoman Captain Edith Mjoko said a 35-year-old man had subsequently been arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.

"It is believed the driver was transporting the dagga from Macwerheni village in Ntabankulu to Cape Town," she said.

In another incident, a police team conducting a roadblock with traffic officers in Dordrecht recovered 24 bags of dagga stashed in neatly-wrapped plastic bags in a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi on Monday.

Interestingly, the taxi was also travelling from Ntabankulu to Cape Town.

Eastern Cape police spokesman Captain Khaya Tonjeni said four passengers, two males and two females, were also found with dagga bags in their possession.

More bags were found inside a trailer the taxi was pulling.

"The suspects will appear in the Dordrecht Magistrate's Court soon," he said.
