Case of M’sane man threatening Hawks spokeswoman delayed

The case of a 41-year-old Mdantsane man who stands accused of sending threatening messages to Hawks provincial spokeswoman Captain Anelisa Feni, while he allegedly had also called a senior state official at the Eastern cape Development Corporation (ECDC) and warned him of a possible assassination plot, was today postponed by the East London Regional Court.

Sithembele April today made a brief appearance in court, facing charges of intimidation, and his case was postponed to May 3 for trial.

The postponement, according to regional court magistrate Dan Ngoqo, was to allow the defence team time to study the contents of cellphone records which allegedly implicate April in the alleged crime and which were provided to the defence this morning.

April was arrested last November after he had allegedly sent a text message to Feni allegedly threatening her with death if she did not resign from the police service “within two days”.

He had also allegedly called ECDC chief executive Ndzondelelo Dlulane warning him about an alleged assassination plot orchestrated by someone who had been fired at ECDC.
