Two Eastern Cape Emergency Medical Services employees are under investigation for not following procedure when they assisted a woman who collapsed while queuing at the Home Affairs offices in East London on Monday.

In a picture that has gone viral on social media, the two employees are seen carrying the patient in what the department terms “disregard manner”.

Department of health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said they are investigating the matter, "and taking internal processes”, he said.

Kupelo told DispatchLive that the employees have been given five days to give their side of the story regarding the way they conducted themselves.

“They were expected to put on gloves and check vital signals and use a stretcher when loading her in the ambulance,” he said.
