Filling station, not Dan's lodge robbed near Mthatha

Police are looking for three men who robbed Kwa Dan’s filling station situated on the N2 outside Mthatha yesterday morning.

Yesterday, DispatchLIVE reported that renowned Mthatha philantropist and businessman Dan Pasiya's popular Dan's Country Lodge outside the city was hit by armed robbers during the early hours of the morning. It was, in fact, the filling station and not lodge that was robbed.

Mthatha police spokeswoman Captain Dineo Koena the incident happened at around 2am.

“According to the garage’s cashier who was on duty, she was sitting outside when three men, one carrying an assault rifle and two carrying pistols, forced her and two petrol attendants to lie down. Fortunately no shots were fired and no one was injured,” said Koena.

She said the armed robbers then gained entry to the shop by tying a chain between their getaway vehicle and the shop’s door.

“They used the vehicle and tore away the burglar gate. They proceeded inside and stole a safe. As yet we do not know how much money was inside the safe,” she said.

A case of business robbery is being investigated.

l Centane police are asking for community assistance to identify a human skull that was found by a fisherman at Qolora by Sea beach, Centane on Saturday.

Police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said it is alleged that a fisherman was fishing at the beach when he discovered the human skull.

“Centane police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of the skull. Anyone who wants to make more enquiries is kindly requested to contact Centane Police at 047-498-1066,” said Manatha. —
