Whether she wins Dancing with the Stars SA or not, Eastern Cape actress Zola Nombona says she’s already won by making it to the top three of the dance competition.

The show, which made its South African debut in February, saw 12 untrained local celebrities put their best foot forward with the help of highly skilled professional Latin and Ballroom dancers.

In the top three is Nombona and her dance partner Tebogo Mashilo, musician Connell Cruise and his dance partner Marcella Solimeo; and actor Eden Classens and his partner Ash-Leigh Hunter. Tomorrow, the show will crown its winner.

From her first appearance on the show, Nombona captured the hearts of South Africans and the judges.

Her Jive earned her the highest points on the first episode, with judges saying she “locked down that jive”.

Speaking with the Saturday Dispatch this week, Nombona said her aim was to make it all the way to the finale. “I wanted to get this far in the competition. I came in with that mentality and it has helped me get through,” she said.

When asked what would it mean winning the dance competition the South African Film and Television Awards winner said she had already won.

“Getting the trophy would be a cherry on top. I feel like I’ve already won by just being in the finale and being the only female left in the competition,” she said.

The 26-year-old actress said she has learnt a lot through the competition.

“I am not the same person I was when I started Dancing with the Stars. I have grown and I am no longer doubting myself. I know I can do more and I am open to trying out new things,” she said.

She said being the only female celebrity left in the competition has put her under a lot of pressure.

Tomorrow’s live two-hour extravaganza, which will be broadcast from 5pm to 7pm, will also feature guest musical appearances from Craig Lucas, Claire Johnston and Mafikizolo. Catch Dancing with the Stars SA on M-Net. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
