Six held for killing wildebeest

Six people were arrested by the Green Scorpions and Adelaide police on Friday in connection with the April 24 barbaric killing of a black wildebeest that broke loose from the nearby Molweni Private Game Reserve.

The suspects aged between 18 and 34, were positively identified on a wildly shared video showing villagers using spades, stones and dogs to kill the beast in front of children. Green Scorpions head of special investigative unit Atienne Kitching, who is also the investigating officer of the case, said the six accused appeared in the Bedford Magistrate's Court yesterday .

The case was remanded to June 8 for further investigations as there are other suspects outstanding. The six were granted bail of R3 000 each, said Kitching.
