Operations are back to normal at St Elizabeth Hospital in Lusikisiki after more than 700 nurses downed tools last week demanding the removal of their CEO.
This comes after hospital's superintendent-general Dr Thobile Mbengashe adhered to the demands of the workers to have CEO Mzingisi Tshaka removed.
Workers had threatened not to return to work until Tshaka was removed.
On Friday Mbengashe put Tshaka on special leave until the investigation on him were concluded.
The department instituted investigation against Tshaka after union leaders raised grievances against Tshaka.
Department of health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the investigation was being finalised and “will be tabled before the parties concerned in due course”, he said.
Nehawu chairman Nkosinathi Mkhumbuzi said they were expecting the SG to give them a feedback tomorrow.
Tshaka is accused of nepotism among other things.
Mkhumbuzi said their main issue was Tshaka's refusal to recognise unions in the hospital.
“He said he is the one in charge of the hospital and cannot run the hospital with unions. That is the attitude we fight against,” he said.
Mkhumbuzi said when Mbengashe comes to give a report back on Thursday they expecting a lasting solutions to all their problems.
“After coming with a clear plan on how they are going to clean Tshaka's mess, we want him to tell us that he will remove him,” he said.
He said workers were not happy with how Tshaka was running the hospital.
“Not removing him will take us back to square one where we downed tools,” he said.
