A student who told the Dispatch last year that he was forced to watch a fellow student being gang-raped by three armed men wearing balaclavas said he believed the gang was the same that attacked them.
The student said, during the attack that happened in September last year, he was stripped of his clothes, robbed of his bank card and forced to give his pin number in a night of terror only a few metres from the Mthatha campus.
The student said he and a female friend had been accosted by the three masked thugs inside the Zamukulungisa campus at about 9pm.
“One was carrying a gun and the others had knives. They instructed us to go with them,” he said.
He was accompanying his female friend to her residence on campus when the men approached them.
The students said the the men forced the pair through the back entrance of the university, and to a spot under a nearby bridge, where the female student was allegedly raped.
“I hope they rot in jail for what they did to me and my friend,” he said.
He said students have been living in fear of being attacked and having mugged of their belongings.
“It was known that they were dealing in drugs and were robbing students of their belongings. We hope we will live in peace now that they are arrested,” he said.

Student leadership at the Walter Sisulu University have welcomed the arrest of five students believed to be members of a gang that has been 'terrorising' fellow students at the Mthatha campus.
Students at Zamukulungisa learning site have been living in fear as they were the target of the gang that was arrested last week on the premises of the university for manufacturing and distributing drugs.

SRC deputy president Ongezile Ncapayi said he hoped the arrest would bring the much needed peace at their site.
“There has been a number of criminal activities within the site. We are happy that there are people who have been arrested,” he said.
Ncapayi said, early this year, a group of students was caught by the security with a sheep they were trying to smuggle to the university.
“I also received reports a few weeks ago about a burglary at our computer lab,” he said.
