Two primary school children drowned while swimming at Eastern Beach in East London.
The boy and a girl aged 13 and 14, were part of a group of pupils who were pulled by Buffalo City Metro lifeguards from the water after experiencing difficulty.
The minors were part of a group of 26 Grade seven class from Mthatha’s Mbekweni Primary School who visited East London for a two day farewell party.
Buffalo City Metro spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya told DispatchLIVE: “Our life guards managed to pull four of the six school kids who were in trouble in the water whilst swimming but, unfortunately for the two, a boy and a girl drowned.”
