South African US-based sprinter Anaso Jobodwana’s athletics career and stardom just keeps getting better – both on and off the track.

Shortly after winning a bronze medal at this year’s IAAF World Championships, Jobodwana, who hails from Phakamisa in King William’s Town, has been handed a sponsored Audi A3 sedan from Audi East London.

The sprint star is in East London on holiday and the vehicle was officially presented to him yesterday with the wording: “Audi East London supports the fastest man in Africa.”

The 23-year-old will have the free ride as long as he is in South Africa, said Audi representatives.

Accompanied by his girlfriend, Taylor Evans, the 2016 Rio Olympics medal hopeful expressed gratitude at the gesture.

“I am over the moon because Audi is my dream car.

“I actually have a picture of an Audi A7 in my room because I have a dream of owning one one day.

“Although it is not the A7 just yet, it gives me inspiration because it is one step closer to actually driving my dream car.”

Audi dealer principal Martin Barnard said every company would kill to be associated with an athlete of Jobodwana’s calibre.

He added that although the deal was only valid until the sprinter returned to the US later this month, they would consider looking at making the agreement last longer every time Jobodwana was in South Africa. — mawandem@dispatch.co.za
