ANC heavyweights visit EL informal settlement

ANC heavyweights, including deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte and NEC member Obed Bapela, visited the poverty-stricken informal settlement of Stoney Drift in Amalinda this afternoon.

The visit was part of a nationwide drive by the ruling party to lure votes in the run-up to August 3 local government elections.

Residents were given an opportunity to voice out their concerns to the leadership, which included BCM deputy mayor Xola Pakati and health MEC Phumza Dyantyi.

Housing backlogs, lack of water, electricity and sanitation were some of the problems cited by the residents.

The ANC delegation took notes and promised to follow up on the grievances raised by the people.

Duarte also welcomed three new members joining the ANC, two from DA and one from the COPE.
