ANC: Rename Buffalo City

Welcome to Dr WB Rubusana Metropolitan Municipality, or Dr WBRMM for short.

If the ANC gets its way, this is going to be the new name for Buffalo City Metro (BCM).

Four years later he was ordained minister of the Congregational Church and deployed to East London where he spent the rest of his life.

Despite being radical, he was among the ministers who threw their weight behind the British authority and so it came as no surprise when, during the Anglo-Boer War, he supported Britain.

Among African academics, Rubusana was second only to John Tengo Jabavu.

He translated a number of biblical texts into Xhosa and wrote books including an anthology of traditional poetry called Zemk’Inkomo Magwalandini (loosely translated as ‘Defend your heritage’).

He led a historic deputation to London to protest against the Native Land Act of 1913, but was unsuccessful.

They had hoped to reverse the colour bar clauses, and prevent the incorporation of Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland into the Union of SA.
