ANC shows Mrara appointment the door

The ANC in the Bhisho legislature have withdrawn the appointment of a woman who was hired but later found to have submitted allegedly fraudulent matric qualifications.

This is the latest development in the saga of ANC and legislature chief whip Mzoleli Mrara’s recent appointments of staff, including that of his former girlfriend.

The development comes after two ANC employees at the legislature last month challenged the appointment of Noluthando Mathetha-Mosiane as one of three new researchers at the ANC offices in the legislature.

Mathetha-Mosiane was appointed with effect from June 1 despite allegedly not possessing the minimum requirements to hold the post of a degree or diploma.

Documents seen by the Dispatch from Umalusi show the matric certificate she had submitted with her application, as “not valid”.

Despite numerous attempts to reach her yesterday, no comment was obtained from her at the time of writing.

Both Nozikhungo Stofile and Noluthando Sipuka, who also work for the ANC caucus in the legislature and who both hold degrees and are working towards post-graduate qualifications, applied for the researcher posts.

They were pipped in the appointment process by Mathetha-Mosiane.

They later challenged her appointment, claiming the matric qualification she submitted was not genuine. They also asked Mrara to explain why she had been chosen over them.

An appeals committee was then set up to investigate the matter. It found Mathetha-Mosiane “does not meet the requisite qualifications for the job”.

Mrara could not be reached for comment yesterday. — asandan@dispatch.co.za
