ANC youth elections heat up

THE provincial ANC youth league elective congress is expected to be highly contested as delegates from around the province converged on East London yesterday.

In an unprecedented turn of events, a third line-up of nominations for provincial party leaders has emerged.

The line-up surfaced yesterday as delegates were registering for the conference and some were still making their way to  East London.

The Saturday Dispatch learnt that the youth league’s OR Tambo activist Mawande Ndakisa has been touted to assume the chairman position and Nelson Mandela Metro region Sicelo Mleve as secretary.

Both Ndakisa and Mleve confirmed yesterday that some regions in the province had approached them to stand for the positions.

Xola Nqola, a branch delegate from the Chris Hani region said there was consensus in his branch that Ndakisa should be provincial chairman.

He said that because his region had not  convened their regional congress, the branches had free will to nominate and vote for whoever they wanted.

Mleve was upbeat saying that the Nelson Mandela Metro was one of the regions calling for his nomination.

This comes amid pronouncement by the Buffalo City Metro region REC that they resolved on Alfred Nzo region chairman Nathi Nqoko and Butsha Lali to become provincial chairman and secretary.

Meanwhile, the first day of the  elective congress was marred with logistical delays as most of the regions had not arrived for registration at midday yesterday.
