Black Coffee on stage in EL tonight

Get your dancing shoes ready because popular DJ Black Coffee is bringing his national tour to East London today.

Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, the founder of Soulistic Music, has so far performed at clubs in Johannesburg, Richards Bay and Durban.

East London is the only city in the Eastern Cape that has been included in the tour and Maphumulo will play at East London’s E-Lounge club tonight.

The concert, dubbed “A night with Black Coffee”, will also see a number of talented national and local musicians performing.

They include Zano, Soulstar, Alexander James, Tumelo, SaiRibatone and Toshi.

“We are really excited about this leg of the tour which goes to my other home province – the Eastern Cape. The tour has already seen great success in the first three cities, Johannesburg, Richards Bay and Durban, which is so humbling especially as we commemorate this significant milestone of 20 years as a free country,” said Maphumulo.

He said music had played a critical role in South Africa’s transformation to democracy.

“So to be hosting these ground-breaking concerts across the country is a befitting tribute, which reflects how far we’ve come as a nation.”

Two local DJs, Mobi Dixon and Letha, will perform at the concert tonight.

Mobi Dixon, whose real name is Mabi Ntuli, made a name for himself when chosen as one of the up-and-coming musicians to benefit from popular DJ Oskido’s “I Believe” initiative in 2012.

He recently released his debut album, Tribal Soul.

Ntuli said he had played at an event with Black Coffee before but this was the first time he featured in one of his shows.

“This is a big tour that he is doing and for East London to be included is an honour. It is an honour for myself to be one of the local DJs that will be playing,” he said.

Ntuli’s latest album has seen him doing a number of pre-launch shows and he recently returned from Johannesburg were he was doing promos. “This is a build up for the big launch that I am planning. For now I just want to get the music out there.”

Catch Black Coffee and the supporting DJs at the E-Lounge at Absa Stadium. Tickets for the show cost R100 and will be available at the door. Cape Town and Soweto are next in line for “A night with Black Coffee” concert. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
