After years of making music, East London muso Metronome received his big break with the release of his single Rainbow Sky, which has been playlisted by major radio stations across the country.

Metronome, whose real name is Anele Nongendzi, began his music journey with a group of friends in 2004. Their band, The Hustle, became the first Eastern Cape hip-hop group featured on the Hype Magazine music compilation.

Nongendzi continued producing music on his own but when he met Simphiwe Pumani from Southern Power Media things started coming together.

Late last year he released the single, featuring Cizario and Khona. The song has seen the Mthatha-born singer visiting major radio stations for interviews.

“Things are hard for musicians,” Nongendzi said. “But social media has made things better for us.”

He added: “We have a team dedicated to promoting my music and without the Southern Power team I would not have received so much airplay from stations.”

Nongendzi said he would be releasing his debut album, It’s time and the Rainbow Sky music video later this year. “As an artist it is wise to release singles first before dropping an album,” he said.
