Struggling Mthatha Bucks have appointed former Chippa United coach Velile “Veza” Dyaloyi as the club’s new head coach.

This was revealed by the club chairman Simthembile Ntlantsana yesterday, adding that Dyaloyi will be assisted by now ex-Elliot FC coach Mondli Funani, who left his previous employers in a huff last week.

Dyaloyi, who replaces Julius Dube after he parted ways with the club last week, will be faced with the mammoth task of lifting Bucks from the NFD log basement.

The Mthatha side are yet to win after 11 matches into the season and currently hold a paltry four points of the 33 that have been up for grabs.

According to Ntlantsana, Dyaloyi’s task is simple: save the club from relegation and ensure it survives.

The club chairman would not divulge additioanal details, such as the length of Dyaloyi’s employment contract.

He, however, believed that Port Elizabeth-born Dyaloyi was the best available man for the job.

“Dyaloyi emerged the successful candidate for the job after an intensive search for a coach the club embarked on for a whole week,” said Ntlantsana.

“Of those who applied, after serious consideration of several factors, like availability and negotiations that ensued, Veza got

the nod and we are confident he is the right man for the job considering his experience at this level.”

Dyaloyi confirmed that he was heading for Mthatha today to sign on the dotted line and hit the ground running by conducting his first training session.

He will have 11 days to prepare the team beforethey face off with fellow NFD rookies Mbombela United in Kanyamazane, Mpumalanga next Sunday.

After the match in Mpumalanga, another month-long NFD break kicks in with the league scheduled to restart on December 20 when Bucks lock horns with equally troubled Moroka Swallows.

The long breaks, said Dyaloyi, will assist him to settle in at the club and get to know the players.

For him, the priority is to find urgent troubleshooting tactics to the club’s porous defence and the not so sharp attack.

“They are conceding a lot of goals but also not scoring and for me that is a big concern,” said Dyaloyi.

“Our immediate task would be to look at why that is the case and work on finding the correct tactical approach to address those challenges so the club can get out of the relegation zone.”

Dyaloyi and Funani have worked together before at Blackburn Rovers in the same NFD.

It now remains to be seen if their partnership will produce the same wonders it did at Blackburn when they finished fourth in the 2011-12 season.

After his stint at Blackburn, Dyaloyi was roped in by East London side FC Buffalo before he joined Chippa United as assistant coach a season later.

In fact, he was still a Chippa employee as their head coach for their reserve side, currently slugging it out in the Multichoice Diski Challenge this season.

But, according to Dyaloyi, the club had given him their blessings to apply for the Bucks job, but Chippa officials were not available to confirm or deny this at the time of writing.
