While many are worried about the cold, East London party organisers are gearing up for the first Winter Warm Up this weekend which will feature national DJs such as Tbo Touch, House Native and the Dream Team.
The event will take place at the Drifters Raceway Theme Park in Cambridge this Saturday.
The inaugural event has been organised by 2Kings Africa and Chase Apparel.
2Kings Africa is behind the popular Cruel Summer Picnic and Chase Apparel hosted the Chase Festival.
“We’ve been wanting to do an annual event that is similar to Cruel Summer but a winter version of it for a long time now. We have been talking about this since we hosted our gigs in December,” said 2Kings Africa’s Lungile Mpharu.
The annual Cruel Summer Picnic event saw more than 6000 young people partying up a storm at the Cambridge Police Park last year while Chase Fest attracted more than 3000 people.
Mpharu said both teams had worked hard to create events that were attractive to young people.
“Not only does this create a fun environment for friends to reconnect during school holidays but there are business opportunities as well for the artists,” he said.
Other artists expected to perform on the day include Dreamteam, Yanga, Thebe, Katt Daddy, Cooley S, Eugenics, DJ Anda, Yoba. The show will be hosted by Sammy Sosa, who said they gave the public an opportunity to tell them on social media which artists they wanted to see. “Based on that we chose our line-up.,” he said.
Chase Apparel’s Qhama Xhali said people should expect the best winter party ever.
“They should expect a fun, outdoor event with an awesome line-up and a good time with friends.
“We have put a lot of time in preparing this event. We have a good line-up,” he said.
Xhali said depending on the weekend’s turnout they would like to make Winter Warm Up an annual event like Cruel Summer and Chase Fest.
“People have been showing a lot of interest on social media. There is a lot of buzz. We will definitely make this an annual event,” he said. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
