DA distances self from royal mudslinging

THE DA in the province has distanced itself from its controversial member AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo’s outburst at the weekend during which he insulted his wife.

Dalindyebo attacked his wife, Queen Noluntu Dalindyebo, calling her a bitch, during the funeral of Ngwenyathi Joyi, a family member.

“I have seen that my wife is also at this funeral. She is a bitch. I don’t know how many men she is sleeping with in Bhisho,” said Dalindyebo.

Noluntu is a member of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders, which sits in Bhisho.

The DA in the province distanced itself from the monarch’s comments, saying he “wears two caps”, one as a member of the DA and another as a king and that his comments were made in his capacity as king.

“Usually, when going to the public, wears the one of being a king.

“Even the issue he was speaking of, had to do with royal issues, so I don’t see why we should be dragged into those things,” party spokeswoman Veliswa Mvenya said.

“As the party we don’t get involved because we can’t tell him how to speak and what to do because we have got nothing to do with royal matters.”

She said “we need to differentiate things and know he is a leader as a king and his behaviour, however it is, is a matter for his royal family”.

Mvenya said the issue should be handled by his family.

“He was speaking like this even when he was a member of the ANC and no one made them answer,” said Mvenya.

Asked if it didn’t bother the party that Dalindyebo was disrespecting women, especially during the 16 days of activism of no violence against women and children campaign, Mvenya said they would stick to their stance.

“We don’t want to interfere on the matters of the royal family. I don’t want us to take him as a political leader … he is not a leader, he is a member,” said Mvenya.

Dalindyebo joined the DA earlier this year with much fanfare, and has, on many public platforms, attacked the ANC and its president, Jacob Zuma. — aphiwed@dispatch.co.za
