Eastern Cape's Amathole experiences water outages

Water outages are being experienced in the Dutywa central business district and the Mncwasa area in the Eastern Cape following low rain falls that resulted in the region’s dams drying up‚ the Amathole District Municipality said on Wednesday.

Noni Vuso‚ acting senior manager: communications and customer care‚ said that in an effort to address the water shortages‚ the municipality had put in place a number of remedial actions.

She said water tankers had been dispatched to cart water from Butterworth to supplement the dwindling supply.

"Three new boreholes have been drilled and are currently being equipped. Pipelines have to be installed in order to connect these boreholes to the existing supply lines. One is complete and is already supplementing supply.

"If water usage is managed very carefully‚ these boreholes have sufficient capacity to satisfy the basic needs of the Dutywa community."
