EL bridal fair covers all bases

World-established bridal gown brand Enzoani will be on display at the Bridal Expo at the East London golf course today, where designers and boutique owners will exhibit their wares.

London College of Fashion graduate, Kang Chun Lin, started the Enzoani brand in 2005, gaining international recognition thanks to its fashion-setting trends and emphasis on quality.

Founder of Zest Couture, Tayla Harvey, 20, possibly the youngest bridal boutique owner in South Africa, is the only stockist of the European brand in East London.

“Since I started running the store I have been shopping around the world looking for designer bridal gowns I can hire out to the community of East London,” Harvey said.

“I had also been searching for a very distinct designer gown which I could have in store to sell. Becoming the only stockist for Enzoani in East London has been an honour.

“They do not allow people who they do not believe can push the brand to new heights, and they chose me,” Harvey said.

Harvey, who has just recently refurbished her boutique along the main road in Abbotsford, said the designer brand could be custom-made for potential brides.

“There’s a size for everyone.”

The former Merrifield pupil said leaving school and pursuing her fashion dream was the best thing that had happened to her.

“My boutique was a dream driven by my passion for bridging the gap between the business of selling garments and being intimate with brides and making their wedding day very special by helping everybody look perfect,” Harvey said.

“It is very special to me because I also become part of the process and have a responsibility to make the bride very happy.”

Harvey said she had identified a gap in the market and filled it.

The former model said brides should be prepared to be blown away by what will be on display at the fair.

About 50 stall owners will be displaying everything – from cakes and venues to decor and dresses. Doors open at 10am and close at 4pm.

The entrance fee is R25.

Harvey said she would be running a competition starting today until the end of February that will see one lucky bride hiring a dress at no cost.

The young boutique owner said former East London mayor Zukiswa Ncitha was among her customers. — mbalit@dispatch.co.za
