Funnyman Siv back in town

LAUGHTER is guaranteed for East Londoners as comedian Siv Ngesi makes his way to the city next week for his one-man show at the Guild Theatre.

The Cape Town-born actor has made a name for himself as an actor and comedian.

He has featured on television programmes and films such as: World Unseen, Zeenon Z3, Long Walk to Freedom, Khululeka, The Adventures of Sinbad, Double Shift and Interrogation Room to mention some.

Recently he was a celebrity finalist on SABC3’s Strictly Come Dancing. He and partner Marcella Solimeo were eliminated last month.

Tonight at 8pm Ngesi and Solimeo perform alongside other couples eliminated on the show.

Ngesi said his show titled Strictly Come Funny was a mixture of his previous works, Dekaf and Race Card.

“The last time I was in East London was about five years ago and I loved the vibe there. I knew I definitely had to come back and do another show,” he said.

Ngesi said people should prepare to have a good time and laugh about things they wouldn’t normally laugh at.

He said the show was about the new generation of black people who did not moan about the struggle, could swim and were not hated by dogs.

He explores the life as a ‘coconut’ and brings to light the wacky truths and quirks of South Africa’s diverse cultures.

Ngesi said he believed the more people laughed about their differences the more the country would unite.

He said the show was about demonstrating the connections among South Africans and to make them realise their oneness as a nation.

“I like joking about our differences. If we do not talk about race it’s like a big pimple in your face. Just because you don’t talk about it, it doesn’t mean others won’t talk about it.

“We just need to talk about it in a respectful manner and not offend people,” he said.

In the show he tells parts of his life, being a black lifeguard, his experiences on the sports field and his views on culture in general.

lCatch Ngesi at the Guild Theatre next Thursday at 7pm. Tickets cost R100 and are available at the Guild and Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
