It’s do or die, vow Dalindyebo dethronement lobbyists

Kings created not born, say AmaDlomo.

A GROUP calling itself Royal Family for the Kingdom of AbaThembu said it was prepared to face anyone or go to the highest court to ensure AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo was dethroned.

The group is led by the Ama-Dlomo royal family, with chiefs Daludumo and Thanduxolo Mtirara at the helm of the campaign to have the king removed.

The Mtiraras, who are uncles of Dalindyebo, called a press conference at the Nelson Mandela Museum in Qunu yesterday.

President Jacob Zuma last week gave Dalindyebo 30 days to convince him why he should not vacate his throne.

The development follows submissions to Zuma from concerned members of the AbaThembu

royal family that the king be removed.

“We would rather die or go to jail for the Dlomo custom,” said Daludumo, the spokesman of the concerned group.

Neither of the Mtirara brothers were ready to publicly announce their preferred successor.

Daludumo denied having groomed the king’s younger brother, Prince Mankunku Mthandeni Dalindyebo, for the role.

This despite earlier touching Mankunku’s shoulder at the press conference and saying he could learn from Dalindyebo’s mistakes.

Mankunku was not allowed to comment.

Thanduxolo said: “According to AmaDlomo custom, a king is created as opposed to being born. Only the custom will dictate who will be the successor.”

Divisions deepened as both Mtiraras tore into what it called the “unfitting behaviour” of Dalindyebo and his close confidantes.

The group also warned Contralesa, which has come out in support of Dalindyebo, to properly read the legislation on the rights by the royal family to remove an incumbent.

The group defended Zuma, saying: “The law allows him to affirm a decision of the royal family.

“We had written about eight reminders to the president to enact a part of the Traditional Leaders Framework Act, which gives the president powers to withdraw the certificate of a king.”

The group vowed they would not attend any meeting called by Dalindyebo and his group, including the Sunday imbizo at Enkululekweni ministerial complex in Mthatha.
