A man has killed himself and critically wounded his wife after an altercation at a special needs school hostel in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
Speaking to News24 on Thursday, police spokesperson Captain Johan Reeder said the woman worked at the Cape Recife School in Summerstrand. An argument is believed to have ensued in the school kitchen.
“It was at this point that the 59-year-old man shot his 46-year-old wife three times before shooting himself. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but has now been stabilised. The husband unfortunately died on scene.”
It is believed that the incident took place shortly before a farewell dance at the school.
The incident comes as the country observes 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
