The weekend is almost upon us, here are some suggestions to help make it a fabulous one.

Marc Lottering

THIS popular South African comedian makes a return this weekend for charity in East London. Lottering will be performing at the Guild Theatre on Sunday. The show starts at 5pm. Tickets cost R150, available from the theatre’s ticket offfice and Computicket.

Emtee live

METRO FM award winner rapper Emtee will be live at Buccaneers this Friday. Tickets are R80 at Computicket.

Piano fun

CATCH Dr Pieter Grobler’s piano recital, featuring the works of Bach, Mozart, Schumann and Chopin, at the Stirling Music Centre and Auditorium tonight, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost R100 at the door, pensioners R80 and students R20. Contact 043-735-1444.

Comedy night

STAND-UP comedian Virgil Prins has his latest show, Unnecessary, live at the Guild Theatre next Tuesday. Tickets are R80 at Computicket or R100 at the theatre.

Take in a French movie

IT’S the Alliance Française’s French movie evening at the Nahoon Mouth Bowling Club, 6.30pm for 7pm. The film – 8 femmes (8 women) is a 2002 French dark comedy musical, written and directed by François Ozon. Based on the 1958 play by Robert Thomas, it features an ensemble cast of high-profile French actresses including Danielle Darrieux and Catherine Deneuve. E-mail

Paris from the Cite

TONIGHT the Ann Bryant Art Gallery presents a lecture by Barry Gibb on the Cite, which is the island in the Seine that houses two famous Gothic landmarks – the cathedral of Notre Dame Paris and the chapel of Santa Chapelle, with their glorious stained glass windows. Entrance is R40. Lecture starts at 7pm.

lTim Plewman is back ‘Defending the Caveman’. The longest-running solo comedy in SA theatre history is again touring the country and will be on at the Guild Theatre from May 18 to 21.
