Kokstad rocked by violent protest

Business activities in Kokstad ground to a halt when hundreds of protesters took to the streets demanding the removal of their local mayor and her deputy in the KwaZulu-Natal town.

Police used teargas against rampaging protesters who stoned and looted shops on Tuesday.

An employee at the town’s Nando’s said they were unable to trade the whole day due to the protests.

Both Jojozi and Mtolo could not be immediately reached for comment.

Municipal phones went unanswered.

Mtolo is a former KZN ANCYL secretary whose structure was disbanded in 2011 by then ANCYL president Julius Malema.
