Lottering to perform in EL show

Top comedian Marc Lottering will be making his way to East London this weekend for a one-man show at The Venue@Hemingways.

The last time he was in the city was when he brought his Captain Lottering Speaking show.

“Last time I brought all my characters but this time around it’s just me doing my stand-up. Stand-up allows you to just talk.

“Characters make up a show and people love that but stand-up is my first love,” he said.

The Cape Town-born comedian said he has been working on new material for the past two months. Although he did not plan on having a tour, Lottering said he has been to Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Mossel Bay and Durban.

“It is an unofficial tour, I did not set it out to be a big tour like Captain Lottering Speaking. I guess that’s how loveable I am,” he joked.

He said his new stand-up comedy show touched on issues such as that of Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner, among many other issues.

Last year Lottering took his Captain Lottering Speaking to London and Australia.

“Things are different when you are overseas. You have to speak slow and you can’t do a lot of political stuff because you cannot assume everyone follows South African politics.

“It’s a different experience, it is always a joy to have people coming to my shows,” he said.

Lottering said he still preferred South African audiences.

“I feel the laughter for me is the best in my own country. South African laughter doesn’t match to any other place. We laugh at anything, we’ve been through so much but we are always ready to laugh,” he said.

Hemingways marketing manager Neville Austin said they could not wait to host Lottering in the city.

“Marc is one of South Africa’s top comedic acts and has captured the hearts of locals across the country ... We can’t wait to host Marc and share what is bound to be an unforgettable and hilarious evening with our guests,” Austin said.

Tickets for Saturday’ show cost R120 and are available at Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
