Playing EL children find slain couple

THE provincial police forensic task team has been called to investigate a bizarre double murder in East London’s Scenery Park township at the weekend.

Two victims, a male and a female in their early 30s, were found dead with their hands tied behind their backs in the township’s phase one area.

Duncan Village police spokesman, Captain Stephen Marais, said the two bodies were found on Saturday morning, with suspicions the incident might have happened a few hours earlier.

“The deceased were found murdered in the area. According to some residents, these people were last seen alive on Friday night.

“We had to call for the provincial forensic task team to assist in this case,” Marais said.

He said children were apparently playing in the bushes when they saw a trail of blood that led them to the crime scene where they found the two dead bodies.

The kids then rushed to nearby houses and screamed for help.

Residents responded and notified the police, he said, and the crime scene was cordoned off.

“Police found both bodies tied at the back, something that made us suspect this was not the work of one person.

“Both corpses had open wounds in the abdomen and both were found half naked but with no suspicion of rape at this stage ,” said Marais.

Marais appealed to community members to help them with information which would lead to the arrest of the suspects.

He said the victims were known from the area but their names won’t be released until their next- of-kin have identified their bodies.

No arrests have been made and a case of double murder has been opened. —
