Highly regarded Cape Town-based singer-songwriter Robin Auld is back on tour and playing in East London tomorrow night.

He will perform at Legends Showcase Venue in Berea and will bring his trademark slide guitar, harmonica, African blues guitar stylings and soul vocals to the city once again after an enthusiastic reception early last year.

Although he has played in East London on a number of occasions before, this will be Auld’s first appearance at Legends.

“My last show here was in early last year at the Old Boys Club, which was not sold out but still very enjoyable,” said Auld. “I’ve always found East London audiences to be very appreciative, and I like that it’s not so age defined – you get the youngsters as well as the toppies. I am looking forward to the show.”

His current tour, which sees him travel the East Coast over four days starting in Wilderness last night, sees him playing at the Music Kitchen in Port Elizabeth tonight and East London tomorrow, and then he finishes off at the Pig and Whistle in Bathurst on Sunday night.

The tour, Auld says, is to enjoy performing while also marketing his latest CD. “The tour is about a bit of both of those, and I might get a surf in too,” he said.

His newest offering, titled Back of the Line, has reportedly received some very positive reviews.

“The reception has been very good in South Africa, and I’ve had a good response in the UK and Stateside as well, with play on shows like the International Americana Show and Celtic Heartbeat,” said Auld.

Over his career Auld has released more than 20 albums with many radio hits such as All of Woman and Baby You’ve Been Good, including a number one hit and several top 20 songs in South Africa.

He has performed with, and alongside, international acts such as Lloyd Cole, Angelique Kidjo, Jackson Brown, Michelle Shocked, Osibisa, Mud Morgenfield and Seasick Steve, as well as collaborating and playing with many of South Africa’s finest musicians such as Arno Carstens, Karen Zoid and Albert Frost, to mention but a few.

For his show at Legends he will be joined by John Dickin on percussion.

“I’ve played many shows with John, he is an incredibly intuitive player and we lock in from word go, it is always a pleasure to play with him,” said Auld.

“I am also trying to convince him to play a bit of guitar as he’s really good at that too.”

Tomorrow’s show is at 7.30pm for 8pm and for bookings call 043 721 2794 to make sure you don’t miss out. Tickets at R100 are available from Lee Gold Music (cash only) or at the door.
