While members of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) occupied much of the Pretoria city centre on Wednesday‚ a few protesters capitalized on the situation and robbed a security guard escorting a truck driver of his firearm.

This is according to the driver‚ Alles Ntimane‚ from RTT Logistics Group.

Ntimane and his guard‚ Jack Mehlape‚ were on their way to Linbro Business Park in Sandton when a few people forced them to stop the truck by throwing stones at the windscreen‚ resulting in it being shattered and preventing him from seeing the road clearly.

“We had just made our delivery here in Pretoria when a few guys wearing EFF t-shirts as well as thugs stopped the truck and demanded that we get out... we were struck with a plank all over our bodies and they stripped Jack his firearm‚” said Ntimane.

Mehlape said he didn’t get a chance to draw his gun when they were attacked.

“These were really quick. I couldn’t believe what has just happened. When they hit my head‚ I had a blackout and I think that’s when they took my firearm‚” said Mehlape.

According to Ntimane‚ who hails from Tembisa‚ the truck was carrying cellphones‚ printers and a toner.

However‚ the atackers were unable to steal these from the truck as they failed to break the padlock on the load bay. They also tried to steal the battery from the truck‚ but they failed.

The police have now escorted the victims to a police station to open a case of theft. — Tiso Black Star Group Digital
