Police break up ANC branch meeting

A senior Buffalo City Metro councillor has challenged the outcome of her ANC branch meeting where police had to defuse fist fights at the weekend.

BCM’s portfolio head for human settlements, Ntombizandile Mhlola, confirmed to the Daily Dispatch yesterday that she had filed a dispute at the regional office over the outcome of a ward 2 branch general meeting (BGM) held at Gompo Hall last Friday night.

Mhlola – a staunch supporter of premier Phumulo Masualle’s campaign to serve a third term as the party’s provincial chairman – says she is against the branch dealing only with provincial conference issues and not electing branch leaders as required by ANC rules.

This was after a group which successfully nominated Oscar Mabuyane as their preferred provincial chairman candidate for the upcoming elective conference opposed the idea of convening both the meeting to elect provincial conference delegates and that of electing a new branch executive.
