Award-winning songbird Lira is to share her life story in songs this Saturday at The Venue@Hemingways in East London.

Lira’s tour is titled Her Story and will see the platinum selling artist performing songs from her first album to her latest.

The Johannesburg star burst onto the scene in 2003 and has since made a name for herself internationally.

“The tour is a musical version of my book. It has music from all my albums mixed with a bit of storytelling to give a perspective of where all the songs came from.”

The tour was a journey through the past decade, she added. “It is inspirational, high energy and fun.” Her albums are titled Feel Good, Soul in Mind, Live in Concert: A Celebration, Return to Love and Rise Again.

Lira’s music appeals to all generations and races.

“My music is universal. It is for human appreciation. I am not genre specific, it is about making music that connects with people. I am really blessed to know that my music appeals to different people,” she said.

Lira said her music received similar admiration when she toured overseas. “I was in Germany recently and seeing how people appreciated my music was amazing.

“The audience was young and old from all over Europe. I was moved by how far some people came,” she said.

Last year Lira released her first US album, Rise Again. She said she has also been well received in the States.

“I wish I could spend more time there. When you are present in a place, you gain momentum. When we toured there people were curious.

“They wanted to know who I was. I dress differently and they could see I was not from around. The response was phenomenal.

“It is a matter of spending more time there and capitalising on that.” She plans to return to the US in June, when it will be summertime there.

The 36-year-old said it has always been her dream to spread her wings all over the world.

“When we dream we never know how it’s going to turn out.

“The dream is nothing compared to the reality of it. It is so amazing, you don’t get used to it.

“My journey started with me wishing. I put my dreams down on paper and did something about it,” she said.

Lira said during her tour she would be encouraging people not only to dream but to also work towards realising them. “God blesses those who are willing to work.” Catch Lira from 7.30pm at The Venue@Hemingways. Tickets for her show range between R150 and R205 and are available from Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
