Stars in EL for year-end bash

National artists performing at today’s Countdown Music Festival have vowed to wow the crowds expected to pack Buffalo Park Stadium from midday to the early hours of Friday morning.

The East London festival, which is in its second year, was a major success last year, pulling thousands of people despite the light showers that fell on the day.

Event organiser Oyama Dyosiba told the Dispatch that people should expect a first-of-a-kind countdown experience, and urged revellers to descend on the cricket stadium in large numbers.

He said the idea behind the event was to inspire East Londoners and people from surrounding areas to welcome in the new year together, in the spirit of togetherness.

“There is never really place to celebrate the coming of a new year than East London. This place is brilliant; it’s the place to be during the festive season and it is befitting that we honour it with this great event,” he said.

The Countdown Music Festival seems to have inspired many East Londoners to go out and enjoy themselves on the last day of the year.

“There has never really been an event that ushers the people within the province into a new year. Other provinces have such events; this is the platform for us. Last year was a great success, even though it was the first one. People enjoyed the environment; people have been asking us to bring back the event,” Dyosiba said.

Tickets for the Countdown Music Festival can be purchased at TicketPro, Music Mix, Edgars, CNA, Jet, or at the entrance to the stadium near Jaguar/Land Rover. Prices range from R170 to R1700 for VIP seats. — siphem@dispatch.co.za
