Toys to warm little hearts

READERS have answered a call by the Daily Dispatch to donate toys to help bring joy to less fortunate children this Christmas.

The toy drive started on November 29 and toy boxes were placed throughout the region, with readers urged to donate at least one toy.

Dispatch marketing manager Suren Packery said the initiative had been warmly received by the readers.

“We would like to send out a heartfelt thanks to everyone that contributed. Their contribution will ensure we are able to bring smiles to many children this Christmas,” he said.

The provincial ANC also supported the initiative by donating toys last week.

Provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said they supported the initiative as a way of mourning, remembering and celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela.

“Madiba would have a special Christmas party for the children in his home and it is because of his love for children that we donated toys,” he said.

Those wanting to donate, can bring their toys to the Dispatch office in Caxton Street.

Packery said they had identified homes in Mdantsane and Mthatha to benefit. — DDR
