Motivational  speaker and actor Aphiwe Bukani is embarking on a nationwide tour to give away stationery and bursaries for school pupils.

The East London-born actor, who has featured on soapies Generations and Muvhango, said the Still Standing 2016 tour aimed to motivate, educate and empower ordinary South African with a focus on the youth.

“The tour speaks to those who have fallen and those who are still on the go. The title comes from falling but still being able to stand, to lose everything in life but still being able to walk tall and to stand for what is yours.”

The 26-year-old said that he also wanted to share his experience as an actor and entrepreneur on the tour, which has been endorsed by the department of education.

“The tour kicks off on March 18 and the first stop is George Randell High School where I matriculated, which is my way of saying thanks to the school for everything they taught me,” he said. He is to visit other schools in Mthatha on March 25, Alice on 26 and Port Elizabeth the following day.

“We are also giving away stationery and uniform vouchers and five bursaries per province.

“The bursaries will be given to the top achievers from disadvantaged families.”

The bursary is for the first year at a tertiary institution. The amount has not yet been finalised.

The tour will touch on such topics as child-headed families, living positively with HIV/Aids and dealing with failing Grade 12.

Bukani, who is The New Age’s marketing developer and holds a marketing degree from University of Johannesburg, said he was passionate about people and believed that when you motivated people “you also get something from them”.
