Two nominations for East Cape’s Moneoa

All roads lead to Durban this weekend for the annual Metro FM Music Awards ceremony, which have particular significance for Eastern Cape singer Moneoa who has been nominated in two categories.

The 24-year-old has been nominated in the best female album category for her latest offering, Ndim lo. Also nominated are Naima Kay, Bucie, Unathi Msengana and the late Lulu Dikana.

Moneoa’s song Yekelela also scored a best R&B single nomination along with Afrotraction’s Angeke, Ayanda Jiya’s Go go girl, Donald’s Crazy but amazing and Lloyd Cele’s Ndiyakudinga mtakwethu.

Moneoa, Msengana and the late Dikana are the only Eastern Cape nominations.

The Mthatha singer and actress said she was honoured to have received two nominations. “I feel good, this is exciting. This is the second time I am getting a Metro FM Awards nomination and this means a lot to me, I am truly humbled by all of this.”

Her second album, Ndim lo was released in September. She said the album was a “piece of what she is all about” as she opened her heart and soul in it.

Although her second album is not doing as well as her debut album, Coming from Going , Moneoa said she planned to work on a deluxe edition.

“We want to add a couple of tracks on the album when we release the deluxe. But it hasn’t been long since we first released Ndim lo,” she said.

Her single Isibhanxa from the debut album earned her rave reviews, grew her fan base and secured her a 2013 Metro nomination.

The awards – in their 14th year – see the country’s top musicians battling it out in various categories. The awards ceremony is at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Conference Centre in Durban today and will be broadcast live on SABC 1 at 8pm. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
