Sipho Makhabane – Africa for Jesus

Sipho Makhabane is a legend in the gospel music industry, having made a tremendous contribution to the genre.

In recognition of this, in 2012 he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Gospel Music Crown Awards.

The Akukhalwa hit-maker returns with his album Africa for Jesus, on which artists such as Buhle Nhlangulela, Israel Mosehla and Nduduzo Motse are featured.

This live recording, Makhabane’s first after bringing out 20 albums, was recorded at Potter’s House Family Church in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal.

Khanyisa Sabuka – Usithembisile

Usithembisile is the latest release from East London gospel star Khanyisa Sabuka. This 15-track-album follows the successful Amandlóvuko.

Recorded in Mthatha and East London, it was released under Sabuka’s own music label, Sibabalwe Music Productions.

On the album, Sabuka tells believers that what God promises will come to pass, despite the challenges they face.

The third track on the album, Sebenza, asks God to make the world a better place. Sabuka acknowledges that with God nothing is impossible and He can change things for the better.

The 15-track-album has heart-touching songs like Igamélithi Jesu and Sihamba Ngokukholwa that will lift your spirits.

Veliswa Skeyi – Bitso laka/ Igama lam

Award-winning Zwelitsha-born gospel singer Veliswa Skeyi has releasing her new offering Bitso laka/ Igama lam.

The message on the album is clear and simple. It encourages Christians to ensure their names are written in the book of life. Skeyi tell listeners to do this by accepting Jesus as their saviour.

Endumisweni Gospel Group – Unabantu bakho Thixo

I must confess that until I heard their album Ingoma Eyodwa, the Endumisweni Gospel Group never appealed to me.

However, the Mdantsane-based gospel outfit is now among my favourite groups. Their latest album Unabantu bakho Thixo is a real spirit-reviver.

I found myself singing along to every song on this album. While Unabantu bakho Thixo features traditional songs, they are arranged so well that they hold great appeal in this modern era.

Jabu Ngcobo – Usizo Lwam

I fell in love with Jabu Ngcobo’s voice the first time I heard her sing with Sipho Makhabane on his album Akukhalwa.

Some will remember Ngcobo featuring on songs such as Siyabonga Jesu and Kuhle Moya Wami – after that she disappeared from the public eye.

Happily she is now back with a debut album Usizo Lwam – a must for fans.

On the album, Ngcobo tells Christians to fix their eyes to the Lord from where their help will come.

Other songs on the album include You are Worthy, Lomhlaba unjani as well as Wazithwala izono and the title track, Usizo Lwam.
