Water might return after three days

Large parts of East London are still without water after Buffalo City Metro yesterday said it was busy with emergency repairs at Umzonyana Dam. City residents were seen at various shops queuing to buy water.
In Southernwood, a Manor House Old age home resident has been buying water for fellow residents since 7am. She said they were using pond water in their front garden to flush toilets.
Frere Hospital CEO Rolene Wager confirmed the hospital was being affected by the water outages.
"Patients who were due to undergo surgical operations have been turned away today," she said.
The metro sent out a media alert yesterday morning advising that water disruptions were being experienced in some parts of the city due to emergency repairs at the dam, saying the supply would return to normal in the afternoon.
However, in the afternoon BCM spokesman Thandy Matebese advised that water supply was expected to resume at midnight or this morning.
Matebese added that the system may take two to three days to recover after the repairs have been completed.
