Former city girl all smiles after boyfriend ropes in Hollywood star
AWEDDING proposal video in which Hollywood actor Zach Braff proposes to an East London girl on behalf of her boyfriend has become a YouTube sensation, registering over a million hits.
Former East London resident Janice Fletcher’s boyfriend Matt Hulbert asked Braff to help him propose and the Scrubs actor readily agreed.
Fletcher, who matriculated from Hudson Park and left South Africa seven years ago, lives with Hulbert in the United Kingdom.
Braff, an American actor well-known for his role as Dr John Dorian on the television series Scrubs, was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2005. He has also starred in Hollywood movies including the romantic drama The Last Kiss.
The video starts off with the actor holding up a picture of Hulbert saying that he [Hulbert] had asked Braff to relay a question to Fletcher and then proceeds to hold up a picture of her.
Braff was not the only person Hulbert roped in for the proposal.
After Braff “pops” the question, the video jumps to various shots of family and friends encouraging Fletcher to say yes.
The video, which is about four minutes long, is shot in various parts of the world, including East London.
Hulbert allowed his imagination to run wild with his creation, even getting their pets to help convince Fletcher say yes.
The video ends with Fletcher being reduced to tears but she still manages to give Hulbert’s proposal an excited nod.
In an e-mail to the Saturday Dispatch this week, Fletcher said: “Watching the video, I felt totally speechless and overwhelmed.”
The couple both work as graphic designers and Fletcher said she met Hulbert on an online dating site in the UK four years ago.
“The majority of my family are still based in East London, with some in America too. I think Matt wanted to show me in one collective way how much our families, friends (and him obviously) love me,” she wrote.
“I think the video accomplished what Matt set out to do.”
Fletcher said the proposal was the most amazing thing that was ever done for her.
“It was fantastic to be the catalyst of the wave of love that went around the world,” she said.
Hulbert said: “I wanted to do something radically different that she would remember forever.”
He said Braff was the best guy to ask because he was the couple’s favourite actor. He managed to get hold of him via Kickstarter, a website that Braff was using to campaign for his new movie, Wish I was here. — email@example.com
