Salizwa Mgquba, a nursing student at the University of Fort Hare (UFH), and her boyfriend Michael Boots have been denied bail in the East London Magistrate's Court.
On Wednesday Mgquba told magistrate Nazeem Joemath she intended to plead not guilty in the trial. “I did not commit any crime,” she said softly.
Mgquba said her life would come to a halt if she was not granted bail. “Had I not been arrested last week, I would have been allocated a clinic to do community work. I am supposed to be finishing my degree this year but if I am not granted bail that will not happen.”
Yesterday the couple were denied bail. A third accomplice, Odwa Mona was released on R1000 bail. The trio will appear again on August 24. They were charged with robbery and possession of an unlicensed a fiream.
