Every X 'to stay' was a cut in the heart of SA

If anyone had any doubts that the ANC does not care about the future of this country then yesterday’s proceedings in parliament put paid to such doubts.

By voting to keep the rogue Jacob Zuma in office, ANC MPs in the National Assembly effectively raised the middle finger to the millions of South Africans who put them into power.

It was the biggest betrayal yet of the trust that the voters had placed in the governing party.

With every X in favour of Zuma they cut into the heart of our hard-won democracy. With the stroke of a pen they declared their allegiance to Zuma and owned up to every corrupt act that the president has presided over. It’s evident that to those MPs, the theft of billions of rands by Zuma and the Guptas is inconsequential to them.

The millions stolen from poor black farmers in Vrede in the Free State – used to fund the lavish Gupta wedding at Sun City in 2013 – does not offend them.

They have no qualms with Zuma and his friends capturing our state-owned enterprises with the purpose of siphoning billions meant for service delivery. Long gone are the days when the ANC declared itself as “the leader of society”.

Now they are driven by their own selfish interests.

Ahead of yesterday’s vote, courageous ANC MP Makhosi Khoza reminded her counterparts that a vote for the motion was “a vote against the kleptocracy President Jacob Zuma has actively developed ... It is a vote against corruption”.

Clearly they were not listening to Khoza’s voice of reason.

Does ANC “unity” matter more than what is in the interest of the country? How much longer must Zuma be allowed to plunder this country? At least South Africans now know where they stand with the ANC. To those ANC MPs who voted to keep the thieving Zuma in power: shame on you.

They are not worthy of being called “honourable members”. If anything they are horrendous members. - The Editor
